Special meet on housing proposal

The Libertyville village board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at the Libertyville High School auditorium, 708 W. Park Ave. (Route 176) to consider a controversial proposal for 148 homes west of Butterfield Road near Lake Street. Three public hearings totaling about 12 hours have been held since last fall regarding the proposal by the Roanoke Group LLC on 40 acres owned by the Catholic Bishop of Chicago. The village plan commission recommended against four of the five actions being sought by Roanoke to proceed and cited lack of a traffic signal as a safety concern. Vocal opponents also have questioned traffic, school impact, building design and the financial projections of the proposal.
