Manski, Baffico, DeMoon and Marra for Oak Grove District 68

Five candidates are seeking the four 4-year

seats open on the Oak Grove District 68 school board in April. Oak Grove is a National Blue Ribbon School award recipient in Green Oaks and recently completed a $14 million building renovation.

Jennifer Manski, the only incumbent, is seeking a third term. She is a chief of staff at AbbVie Inc. Also on the ballot is Jonathan Baffico, a Catholic high school principal in Chicago; Cathie Anest DeMoon, a former schoolteacher and now stay-at-home mom; Matthew Marra, an executive with Stericycle; and, Krysia W. Ressler, an attorney.

Manski says she wants to keep going, doing what's best for the students. She wants to continue improving communication with the community and says she adds value and perspective as a working parent. Baffico says he's a good listener, good with numbers and can offer a perspective from the school standpoint as a principal and also as a parent. DeMoon says she likes challenges, is organized, caring and fair. She notes her past classroom experience could benefit the district.

Marra says he's decisive and not a fence sitter. He's ready to do the hard work and make the appropriate decisions. He says he has the time to dedicate and wants to make things better at an already outstanding district. Ressler is a former Oak Grove student and is ready to give back. Listening, communicating, being respectful and working toward common ground for the students are her goals.

Voters can't go wrong with any of these candidates. The Daily Herald finds the best lend of experience, background and vision in Manski, Baffico, DeMoon and Marra.
