Aurora CC downs Westminster Christian

Austin Berens hit a 2-run home run while Jimmy Laurenti and Johnny Belskis each drove in 2 runs Friday to lead the Aurora Central Catholic baseball team to a 6-4 win over Westminster Christian in the season opener for both teams.

Berens picked up the win in relief of John Cosgrove for the Chargers.

Nathen Martinez had 2 doubles and 2 RBI for Westminster. Theron Dorsey added a double while Killian Vasica and Tyler Schoemann each had RBI.

Martinez suffered the loss on the mound for the Warriors.

Harvest Christian 22, Greenfield NW 1: In downstate Jacksonville, the Lions opened the season by pounding out 17 hits including 4 from Zach Pawelek, who also had 2 RBI. Adding to the offense for Harvest were Grant Young (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Samuel Bonick (RBI), Brock Wilken (3 hits, 2B, RBI), Drew Lewis (2 hits, 3B, RBI), Nolan Boyce (RBI), Joey Pepper (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Isaac Martinez (RBI), Dominik Olech (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Dylan Lockwood (RBI), Jack Nohava (2 RBI) and Dayne Frederick (2B, 3 RBI). Lewis was the winning pitcher as three Lions combined on a 1-hitter.

Harvest Christian 13, Mount Pulaski 0: In its second game of the day in Jacksonville, Harvest got a 5-inning 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and no walks from Drew Lewis, who also doubled and had an RBI. Brock Wilken (2 hits, RBI), Joey Pepper (2 hits, 2 RBI), Dylan Lockwood (3 hits, 3B, RBI), Dominik Olech (2 RBI) and Zach Pawelek (3 hits, 2 RBI) also contributed to the Lions' offense.
