Aurora Library plans Bookmobile Day celebration

The Aurora Public Library will celebrate National Bookmobile Day Wednesday, April 12, with an open house called "Books, Bagels & the Bookmobile."

The bookmobile will be parked at the Richard and Gina Santori Public Library, 101 S. River St., from 9 a.m. until noon. The public is invited to step onboard to see what the vehicle has to offer, enjoy a bagel, and go home with a special giveaway.

"Libraries are the heart of every community, and our library helps our community thrive," said Kathleen Butzen, outreach services manager. "As a vital part of our library, our bookmobile brings these valuable resources to our customers.

"Our bookmobile serves people of all backgrounds, providing access to almost every service that patrons find in library branches, including reader advisory services, summer reading, traveling story time, stories in the park and other children's programs," she said.

National Bookmobile Day is a celebration of the more than 930 bookmobiles and dedicated bookmobile staff members who provide library services to their communities.

The occasion is an opportunity for Americans to express their support for the mobile institutions. For more than 100 years, bookmobiles have delivered information, technology and resources for lifelong learning to Americans of all lifestyles.

Part of National Library Week, National Bookmobile Day is an observance sponsored by the American Library Association, the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services and the Association for Rural & Small Libraries.

To find an Aurora Public Library Bookmobile stop, call (630) 723-2705 or visit the library's website at www.aurorapubliclibrary.org.

For those who wish to see more bookmobiles in one place, the semiannual Bookmobile Roundup will be held at the Santori Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, June 2. At least six bookmobiles from around Northern Illinois will be on display and open to the public.
