Crash closes Route 59 in South Barrington for almost 7 hours

South Barrington police are investigating a crash early Thursday morning which caused Route 59 between Higgins and Penny roads to be closed nearly seven hours.

A 26-year-old Chicago man driving south on Route 59 crashed his car into a traffic signal pole at Arboretum Drive about 12:30 a.m., Police Chief Thomas Roman said.

"From the damage, it looks like he was going pretty fast," Roman said.

The driver was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. His condition was not available Thursday.

The road remained closed for hours while police investigated the crash and the traffic signal was repaired.

Charges have not been filed.
