Hanover Park man charged with battery, sexual assault

A Hanover Park man, who authorities say struck and sexually assaulted a woman after telling her only he could have her, was ordered held on $500,000 bail Thursday.

Michael Brown was charged with aggravated domestic battery and criminal sexual assault.

At the time of his arrest Tuesday, Brown, 31, was wanted on a warrant alleging he violated an order of protection.

About 10 a.m. Feb. 16, Brown went to the woman's home in violation of the order of protection, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Mennie. It was unclear who let Brown into the home, Mennie said, but he entered and the woman sent a young child who was present up to his room.

According to authorities, Brown dragged the woman up the stairs by her neck and hair and told her, "I know you're seeing someone and I know he's here," Mennie said.

Brown forced the woman into a bathroom, where he hit her, causing her to strike the bathtub and the toilet, Mennie said. After telling her, "I'm the only one who can have you," Brown sexually assaulted her, Mennie said.

The woman broke free and struggled into the hall, where the child stood after leaving his room, Mennie said. When Brown moved toward the boy, the woman tackled him, after which he ran from the home, Mennie said.

Brown was convicted of the manufacture and delivery of marijuana in 2013 and drug possession in 2010. He received probation both times, Mennie said. He also received two convictions for retail theft in 2006, for which he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Brown next appears in court on April 6.
