Still time to join seed starting workshop with Kane County Master Gardeners

Head off cabin fever by starting your own seeds indoors this year.

Growing vegetable transplants helps home gardeners get a significant jump on a spring garden, among other benefits.

Join Master Gardeners Sue Styer and Leah Beck on Tuesday, March 28, in St. Charles for tips on seed choice, soil preparation, container selection, lighting options and troubleshooting problems. They also will cover common mistakes home gardeners make, and will offer guidance to avoid them.

"Starting your own seedlings for the garden is a great way to save money and grow varieties of flowers, vegetables and other plants not usually found in stores or garden centers," said Sarah Fellerer, Master Gardener program coordinator with University of Illinois Extension. "Program attendees will learn valuable information to begin or improve the process."

The "Seed Starting" presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at the University of Illinois Extension-Kane County office, 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

The workshop costs $10 per person, and space is limited.
