'The Girl on the Train' author coming to Naperville

Author Paula Hawkins, who wrote "The Girl on the Train," is scheduled to appear this spring in Naperville to promote her new novel, "Into the Water."

Hawkins is set to speak and sign copies of her new book during a presentation at 7 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Yellow Box Community Christian Church, 1835 Emerson Lane.

She's appearing through Anderson's Bookshop, which has brought the likes of J.K. Rowling, "Weird Al" Yankovic, George W. Bush, Cameron Diaz and Giada De Laurentiis to town among hundreds of other authors.

Book-lovers at the shop, as well as fans of Hawkins' first novel, already are anticipating the former journalist-turned-author's visit.

"She's not going very many places, so it's very exciting for us," Anderson's spokeswoman Candy Purdom said about the book tour by the author of "The Girl on the Train," an international best-seller published in 40 languages, turned into a movie and hailed as a suspenseful, psychological thriller.

Hawkins, who was born in Zimbabwe and now lives in London, worked as a journalist for 15 years before turning to fiction and releasing "The Girl on the Train" in 2015.

Purdom says her new book follows in the same vein, and it's sure to feature a twisting plot.

"Into the Water" is set to be released May 2. Fans who buy a copy through Anderson's can get a ticket to Hawkins' speech and the chance to meet the author as she personalizes and signs books.

Tickets are available at paulahawkinsandersons.brownpapertickets.com for $39.29 including the book, event ticket and a service fee.
