ECC celebrates Women's History Month

Elgin Community College continues its monthlong celebration of Women's History Month in March with a series of events and activities, including the Inspiring Women's Tea. All events are open to the public and will be held at the college, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Women's History Month is presented by the Women's History Month Committee, African-American Women's Subcommittee, Student Life Department, and the Global and International Studies Taskforce (GIST). For more information, visit www.elgin.edu/womenshistory.

On Monday, March 20, learn about feminism and how it relates to you in "Feminism 101" from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Building C Library, Room C120. Learn about the history of the feminist movement, its modern-day relevance, and how it intersects with various identities and social justice movements.

On Tuesday, March 21, hear ECC's very own Toya Webb, executive director of communications, and associate math professor Terri Martin share their stories of how they overcame obstacles to succeed and raised the bar as minority women during the African-American Subcommittee Luncheon from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in Building E Dining Room. On Thursday, March 22, the Inspiring Women's Tea will honor ECC students, faculty, administrators and staff who were nominated by their peers as an inspiring woman from 1 to 2 p.m. in Building B Community and Heritage Rooms. Join this free event that includes tea, treats and lively conversation.
