Attorney Kerry Lavelle to Speak on Law Practice Management

Attorney Kerry Lavelle of Lavelle Law has been invited by the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) to speak at the upcoming Solo & Small Firm Practice Institute Series. The presentation will be part of the March 31st seminar titled A Balancing Act: Technology Tips and Maximizing Your Profit, to be held at the iWireless Center in Moline.

In 2015, the American Bar Association published Lavelle's book The Business Guide to Law; Creating and Operating a Successful Law Firm. At the upcoming ISBA conference, Lavelle will discuss the importance of law firms establishing and following a traditional business plan.

"The value of a business plan is something that I try to impart on law school students, young attorneys, and even experienced practitioners who are thinking of starting their own firm," Lavelle said. "We all need to appreciate that regardless of how proficient we are as lawyers, the process of running a firm is truly a business endeavor."

In Build it and the Profit Will Come: Steps to Building Your Business Plan, Lavelle will cover a number of critical elements in a business plan including short- and long-term goal setting, the management structure of a firm, employment policies, marketing and lead generation, client fulfillment and satisfaction, and the unique culture of a firm.

"This is a topic that I am very passionate about," said Lavelle who recently turned over the day to day operation of the 26 attorney firm he started more than two decades ago in order to spend more time with clients and provide education on law firm management. He is currently co-chair of the standing committee on Law Office Management & Economics for the ISBA and also of the Law Practice Management Committee of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.

Attorneys who attend the conference will receive MCLE credit hours where appropriate. Information is available at https://www.isba.org/cle/2017/03/31/maximizingyourprofit.
