Folk singer Elaine Romanelli to perform Sunday at Tree of Life UU
Singer Elaine Romanelli has been generating a lot of buzz in indie folk music circles. Chicago's WFMT host Rich Warren said she "shines like a supernova … Utterly haunting … highly original" and her album "The Hour Before" was named to four "Best Albums of the Year" lists for 2015.
On Sunday, March 19, she will bring her gifts to a special showcase performance at 12:30 p.m. at the Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry.
The New York-based Romanelli tours nationally, writes, sings, plays, and teaches and is currently on a mini-tour of Chicago area venues. She was selected as a 2016 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist.
Two of her gospel-style choral service music settings were chosen to be sung at the 240th annual New York Catholic Diocesan Convention where she previously served as the song leader.
She appeared in 2006 in the Tony Kushner and Maurice Sendak collaboration, "Brundibar," at the New Victory Theater in New York City and even did a reality TV turn on "What Not to Wear."
Rich Warren will be featuring Romanelli on Saturday night before the concert at 8 p.m. for a one hour concert on the nationally syndicated Folkstage program.
Her latest album "The Hour Before" was coproduced by folk legend Si Kahn, and debuted at No. 3 on the international Folk DJ list the month of its release.
Prior to the Sunday afternoon concert Romanelli will provide the music for Tree of Life's special 10:45 a.m. all-ages service "Alive with Spring," led by religious education director Sam Jones.
The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill collection will be taken. Romanelli will have her award-winning CD for sale.
