As much as $6,000 in property stolen from Gurnee church

Up to $6,000 in property was swiped earlier this week in a Gurnee church burglary, police said.

Gurnee police Cmdr. Brian Smith said the break-in was reported about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, at Bethel Lutheran Church in the 5100 block of Grand Avenue. He said the stolen property was valued at $5,000 to $6,000.

Citing the active investigation, police declined to say what was taken from the church or reveal other specifics connected to the case. Smith said investigators are following up on several leads.
