Lake Zurich's El Jardin restaurant closing

El Jardin restaurant in Lake Zurich said in a Facebook post that Tuesday was its last day in business.

“It is with a heavy heart, we regret to inform you The El Jardin Lake Zurich will be closing its doors on March 14, 2017,” the post said. “Come in, and enjoy our Margaritas, food, and friendly service for the last time. We are so grateful, and will miss our wonderful customers, and amazing staff,” the post said.

The eatery, at 500 Ela Road, opened about two and a half years ago. It operates in a building where restaurants have come and gone since the 1990s.

El Jardin owner Lawrence Ruiz, a Lake Zurich resident, said the eatery first opened on Clark Street just south of Wrigley Field in 1967. El Jardin, which means “the garden” in Spanish, launched its first suburban location in Glenview about 10 years ago.
