Boys water polo: Prior, Hersey edge out Prospect

Hersey's boys water polo team got started with a victory in Mid-Suburban East play against Prospect in an 8-7 decision Monday.

The Knights led 2-1 after the first quarter, but Hersey regained control by winning the second period 3-1.

Brian Prior paced the Huskies with 4 goals, and while Dan Macina led Prospect with 4 goals and Nick Partipilo had 2.

Barrington 14, Schaumburg 0: Seniors John Fischer (5 goals) and Mitch Gavars (4) led the scoring effort as the host Broncos rolled in MSL West action. Jack Krieps made 10 saves in goal for Barrington.

Elk Grove 12, Rolling Meadows 8: John Noonan scored a game-high 7 goals and Nick Rosenorn had 4 to help the Grens go to 1-0 in the MSL East.

Conant 12, Palatine 8: Visiting Conant was able to prevent Palatine from scoring in the third quarter in picking up an MSL West road win.

Palatine's scoring was led by Glenn Ingebritson (3 goals), TJ May (2) and Sean O'Brien (2).

Fremd 14, Hoffman Estates 2: The Vikings joined an early three-way tie for the MSL West lead by topping the Hawks.

St. Patrick 14, St. Viator 13 (OT): Stephen Battin (5 goals) and Tyler Coupe (4) led the scoring effort for the Lions in a Metro Catholic Athletic Conference matchup. Senior goalie Tim Bansfield stopped 10 shots for St. Viator and Jake Lydon scored twice.
