Lake County deputies save heroin overdose victim

Lake County Sheriff's deputies used CPR and the anti-opiate naloxone Friday to save a man suffering from an apparent heroin overdose, authorities said Monday.

Deputies found the 29-year-old Trevor, Wisconsin, man unconscious and not breathing about 6:40 p.m. Friday while responding to a call of an unresponsive person in a vehicle in the area of Hunt Club Road and Millburn Road in Newport Township.

After learning the man recently ingested heroin, Sgt. Robb Briggs began performing CPR while Deputy Tyler Girmscheid administered naloxone, sheriff's police said. When the man didn't respond, Deputy Ashley Pomazal administered additional doses of naloxone, authorities said.

After six doses of Naloxone, the man began breathing on his own and regained consciousness. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he is expected to make a full recovery, sheriff's police said.

This is the sixth life saved to opioid overdose by Lake County Sheriff's deputies this year, according to the sheriff's office.
