Phi Theta Kappa names Trinity to national honor roll

Deerfield, Ill. - Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for students pursuing two-year degrees, includes Trinity International University on a national honor roll of institutions for 2017 that create dynamic pathways for college transfer.

Phi Theta Kappa calls itself the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society of its kind. The organization reports a membership of more than 3 million, and supports 1,300 chapters in nine nations.

In selecting 65 chapters for honor roll recognition, applications were judged based on "engagement, collaboration, impact and achievements related to the transfer of community college students as well as partnerships, support, admissions outreach, scholarships/financial aid, student engagement opportunities and institutional priorities," according to a Phi Theta Kappa news release.

Trinity and the other honored institutions will receive recognition at "Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst," the organization's 2017 annual convention, April 6-8 in Nashville, Tenn.

Trinity was one of only six Illinois-based institutions to make this year's honor roll.

"With this designation, we hope to connect community college students with institutions who value their unique transfer experience and prioritize their success," Phi Theta Kappa CEO Lynn Tincher-Ladner said.

"We are thankful for Phi Theta Kappa's work with transfer students and are grateful to receive this recognition," Senior Vice President for University Services and Strategic Initiatives Rich Grimm said. "We look forward to serving Phi Theta Kappa students, and helping them see that Trinity is an institution committed to their success."

Trinity offers transfer guides for 24 junior colleges. The guides give students clear instructions about the Trinity application process and the courses at each institution that will transfer.

Trinity offers a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, a renewable award worth $4,000 per academic year. The scholarship is stackable with other merit-based financial aid.
