Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am running for re-election to continue to pay back to the Park District and the STC community for all that my Family I have benefited from while living in STC. This is the best community we have the best Park District. I would like to continue to bring positive energy ideas to the STC Park District. One of best part of being on the Board is seeing an idea come to fruition and the whole STC community benefits. The PK District employees are tremendous and very motivated. The Leadership Team we have in place has created a positive environment where Employees are recognized for outstanding effort and production. I would like to continue to focus on areas and residents who live in higher density areas. We recently did a redesign of a Park in one of these areas that was innovative and appreciated. Strong vibrant communities all have a high quality of life where Parks Rec play a vital role. I want to continue to serve the residents as a Park Board Commissioner to continue the outstanding tradition of the STC PK Board. How do you assess the state of the district's finances? What, if any, changes do you propose to alter the district's financial picture, whether through cost reduction or revenue increases? Please be as specific as possible on where you would propose cutting or how you would propose increasing revenue.Excellent. We have been very good stewards of the taxpayers of STC Park District. We have a very disciplined Financial process and have been rewarded with good governance by our Auditors. The Park District has a focused strategic Capital Budget. We make strategic long term investments that will ensure the fiscal strength of the STC PK DIstrict. What programs aren't paying for themselves? Would you keep, eliminate or change them? How and why?Not all Programs or Facilities pay for themselves. An example is Parks Natural areas. These areas do not cover their costs. Bike Paths hiking areas require maintenance and capital improvements. The Good News is the revenues from our Aquatic Facilities, Camps, programs, etc..help to cover these costs. Our natural areas, parks, bike paths are OUTSTANDING and our residents employees take great pride derive all types of benefits from these areas. Are there any unmet recreational needs? If yes, what are they and how would you propose paying for them?We believe their is a need for additional indoor sports facilities additional access to swimming(indoor). However, the Taxpayers were very clear with us that they do not want their taxes raised to pay to build this type of a Facility. We are currently exploring public-private opportunities. A great example of this is what we are trying to accomplish with Swim City USA.If you are a newcomer, what prompted you to run for the park board? If you're an incumbent, list your accomplishments or key initiatives in which you played a leadership role.During my tenure these are among the accomplishments I am most proud of;*Food Donations from our Gardeners who have Garden Plots to the Northern Illinois Food Bank*Lincoln Park Ice Skating Rink*Employee Recognition at Board Meetings*Wifi implemented at PK Buildings enabling our Customers to be productive while at PCC*Marketing ideas implemented throughout the Park District*Financial Stability and recognition by Auditors.*New Senior Leadership is outstanding*IGA work with the City-established Montly meetings w-Mayor Rogina and City Admin Mark Koenan*Volunteer Recognition growth of VolunteersWhat other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I believe the PK District is a a key cog in the future of STC. The PK District is a key contributor to the financial engine of the City and I would like to continue to expand the use of PK District Facilities to bring in Tournaments the tax dollars that go along with these Tournaments.I also would like the PK District to continue to be a part of the River Corridor Project see tangible success in 2017 with an upward trajectory for the Project. In 2017 I would like to see progress in our IGA efforts to make the UP Railway tracks that run through town a place for active recreation. I would like to increase the use of Technology in both our program offerings and in how we do business. I believe technology can transform how we operate interact. I have been very impacted by JD Vance's book(Hillbilly Elegy) and have taken the lessons from what happens to communities when they lose their jobs, tax base and most importantly their sense of community. I am very focused on contributing to that sense of community that makes STC special. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Doctors Without Borders/ White Helmets of SyriaWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Hard WorkIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Spend more quality time with my Mom Dad who have both passed. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?History--taught me the value of reading and realizing how we can impact people. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Be Positive have fun
