Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I believe the Gurnee school system has done a great job preparing students for the next phase of their lives, whether it be college or directly to full time employment. Warren offers specialized programs such as Project Lead the Way for students interested in engineering and numerous Advanced Placement (AP), Honors and College Prep classes that challenge students in various subjects. Warren also provides a highly regarded special education program, tutoring resources, pre-vocational and other programs aimed at entry directly into the workforce. There are many reasons why Warren has earned multiple national recognitions for their excellence in education. It is important that we continue to ensure these high standards are not just maintained, but continuously challenged and improved as we move forward. What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose?Warren's Strategic Plan contains a section titled Measurable Greatness Indicators. These indicators, along with the goals within the Plan itself take into consideration many aspects of student life at Warren: academics, clubs, activities, athletics, and success beyond high school. While this plan alone does not guarantee the success of all students, it shows how serious the success of our students is being taken. As time goes on, this plan will require adjustments, but if everybody works together we should have a strong path to help measure the success of our students. How big a role do you think the board of education should play in setting the curriculum for students and what ideas do you have for changes to the current curriculum?I believe the board of education should play an important role in ensuring that curriculum for all students is challenging, and prepares them to for the next phase of their lives. A strong academic background plays a key role in a successful future for our students. There are many test scores and other metrics that can be used to measure the success of an academic curriculum. The goal of all involved should be ensure that the results are always challenged, and we continuously work towards a stronger, diverse curriculum. At the same time, all of the focus cannot be spent on the top level of the academic spectrum. A strong curriculum needs to guarantee the proper education for all students, from all backgrounds, at all levels. What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases? There are many serious challenges facing all school districts in Illinois right now. State wide there are many funding and budgetary concerns. Locally we have to prepare for the forecasted declining enrollment, and the impact this will have on our funding. We have to make sure the appropriate steps are being taken today so that there is no decline in the quality of education tomorrow. At this point I don't have any specific plans on whether any programs or expenses should be reduced or eliminated. Warren has done a respectable job streamlining expenses, while at the same time continuing to provide a high standard of education. Like most residents of Gurnee, I would prefer that our taxes do not increase, and we fully investigate alternatives to increasing taxes. However, if additional taxes are necessary to safeguard the appropriate level of education for our students, then a tax increase should be considered. These difficult decisions will require a strong partnership between the high school, the parents, and our community. What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system?Candidate did not respond. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Candidate did not respond. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Candidate did not respond. What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Candidate did not respond. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Candidate did not respond. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Candidate did not respond.
