Prioritize them, and briefly discuss why you believe each to be critical, and how the board should go about addressing them.1. Reviewing the use of intergovernmental agreements and consolidation with local and state elected leaders. Townships can be used to provide elected representation to appointed boards. We will make sure that we are making the most effective use of tax dollars for mutual constituents.2. Review of the Budget line by line to make sure that services provided to the taxpayers are done so in the most efficient and cost effective manner to keep the tax rate low. In 2015, DuPage Townships were 1.65% of taxpayers property tax bills.3. Review of the Township building maintenance plan to determine the effectiveness of the current structure to see if tax dollars could be saved.What should be the primary responsibility of township government?State Statute defines the primary responsibilities of township government. We must administer general assistance to qualifying residents, assess property values, and to maintain township bridges and roads. These should be the primary responsibilities and we are the only form of government in the state with these responsibilities.In the 21st Century, with municipalities gobbling up vacant land, why are townships needed? Should they be serving a new role? If so, what?As I stated above, we are mandated by statute to administer 3 functions. Also, townships should be the form of government that provides elected representation to appointed boards and those taxing bodies with only appointed officials should be consolidated into townships. Townships should also look to assisting veterans as well as substance abuse services.Are there any township offices that should be eliminated or consolidated?Yes, the Bensenville Fire Protection District #1 should be consolidated into Addison Township. The Supervisor appoints 3 members and they contract fire and ambulance services for about 700 households. It is known as a paper fire district. It does not have a fire station, trucks, firefighters or emt's. It contracts those services. The elected officials of the Township already represent these constituents. The Board can provide elected oversight of the district and they can share their concerns with elected trustees not appointed officials. No need to have different law firms and pay appointed trustees. As a Legislator I filed legislation to do just this, unfortunately it was blocked by the Democratic legislators who voted it down in committee. Townships should you be used to provide elected oversight over paper fire districts and mosquito abatement.Can you identify some township expenses/programs that could be trimmed or eliminated to reduce the tax burden?As I stated in a previous question, we will look to consolidation, inter-governmental agreements and a review of the budget to see where we can save tax dollars. However, we must recognize that Townships make up less than 1.65% of the property tax burden.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?As Supervisor, I will lend an experienced voice in addressing O'Hare Noise. It is crucial that residents can use and enjoy their property without having to stay inside so they can hear themselves think. I will also support additional soundproofing measures for residents and property tax relief offset by the City Of Chicago. While in the General Assembly, I advocated these positions and will continue to do so in my new role if the residents give me the opportunity to represent them.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Pope FrancisWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?That with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything you set your mind to.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Telling my parents more often while they were alive how thankful I was for all that they did for me.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Law in American Society at York and State and Local Government at EIU. Both classes helped direct me toward a career in law and government.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?That with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
