Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I believe in the importance of character development so that students become functioning members of society where they learn to live and work together with families, friends, communities, and nations by demonstrating compassion, empathy, and valuing hard work. Along with character development, my goal is to provide students a broader perspective of the world through global education, cultural relationships and interactions.What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose?Test scores and GPA represent very important pieces of data of an individual, but these numbers do not measure skills like teamwork, collaboration, and moral character - which are increasingly important. Performance based assessments allow students to demonstrate application of knowledge and skills. Using assessment vehicles such as student portfolios and presentations as additional measures of student understanding can aid in evaluating student success.Do you support the district's proposed "Hybrid 4" schedule that would increase classroom time for most classes by 17 minutes each week, though it would cut times for science classes?I believe in the importance of guiding students in their career paths and implementing the "Hybrid 4" schedule would provide students the opportunity to extend majority of their classes by 17 minutes and create more time for career and college counseling. Change is a big part of being successful. The world is continuously changing around us and it is important for us to adapt. We can implement the "Hybrid 4" schedule and if it doesn't produce the results we intended it to do, we can reanalyze, reassess, and redefine the solution.What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases?When faced with a budget crises, cuts are necessary, but it is also important to prioritize where the cuts are made depending on what is needed at that moment. It is essential to look at the school budget and see where the money is being allocated and from there we can look for areas in where to save money. We can also use these budget issues to create opportunities to bring in financial resources through different programs such as alumni foundation, corporate sponsorships, and community fundraiser event.What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system?Maine Township High School District 207 is continuously growing as one of the most diverse public high schools. Maine Township's cultural and ethnic diversity and harmony serves as a very important role in creating global citizens.All three high schools in District 207 are on the Washington Post Challenge List and the US News World Best American High Schools list. They have also been selected by the Center for Digital Education to receive the prestigious Digital Content and Curriculum Award, and the District was recognized as one of America's 14 most innovative districts by Tech Insider in 2016. Multiple District 207 teachers were selected for regional and national teaching awards. This is a reflection of the value that we have put on teacher leadership and on the evolution of the teaching profession. We want our families to be aware and understand that District 207 has a lot to offer in the growth and development of our students and faculty.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?The school system isn't the only working member to foster student success. I strongly believe that it is the partnership with the parents, schools, and community that play a role in the growth and development of our students.
