Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am proud to be part of the Harper College mission, "by providing quality, affordable, and accessible education".In tough economic times, many students (and working professionals) turn to a community college for its educational value. How do you ensure that a person's financial sacrifice results in an educational benefit?Harper College has aligned policies, programs and practices to create the Pathways Program that supports students to be more successful. This is an important element to student success because it requires total intuitional alignment of the faculty, and the culture of the college. Every student has an individual learning plan. This will lead to increased student success, persistence, progression and retention.From the college's point of view, what budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases?The Colleges overall financial position is strong despite the state budget crisis this past fiscal year, the outlook for the current fiscal year is good based on the balanced budget prepared for FY 2017. The College's resources will be closely monitored to assure that the College continues to function responsibly during this time of financial uncertainty.Community colleges provide many services to a diverse population. Is there a service your college should be providing that it is not, or reaching a segment of the population that it is not?The Promise Scholarship Program launched in 2014-2015 has been viewed by the community as a major opportunity in helping remove some of cost barriers to provide access to college. This initiative needs to be expanded to other community colleges across the state.If you are a newcomer, what prompted you to run for the community college board? If you're an incumbent, list your accomplishments or key initiatives in which you played a leadership role.We at the Harper Board are committed to helping students achieve their dreams and assist the community, businesses and industries to meet their workforce and economic needs. In addition, the acknowledgement by The Aspen Institute that Harper College is viewed as an educational leader is a testament to the leadership by the president, board and faculty at Harper CollegeWhat other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Making sure that student loans are kept to a minimum to complete their degree at Harper College.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Bill Gates since he is having a big impact on schools around the nation.What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Education is the key to success. Be a life long learner.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Getting the message out that a educated society is a better society.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Math and Science. I am a big fan of STEM.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?My children have followed my advice about education and are receiving Masters degrees In Aerospace Engineering and Finance.
