Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?The issue that morivates me the most is providing a quality education for our community at an affordable price. The college served me well in my life and I would like to pay that gift forward through service.In tough economic times, many students (and working professionals) turn to a community college for its educational value. How do you ensure that a person's financial sacrifice results in an educational benefit?By comparing the increase in earnings potential that completion at a community college education provides with that of other institutions. The goal is to make sure that the cost-benefit return is evident.From the college's point of view, what budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases?Decreased state support is a major issue. To counter this reality I support a close monitoring of program costs and revenue. My goal is to balance the competitiveness of our students and graduates for work opportunities available in our community. For income I believe we must support measures to keep vital programs intact.Community colleges provide many services to a diverse population. Is there a service your college should be providing that it is not, or reaching a segment of the population that it is not?It would be Itideal for the college to provide more services local startups and small businesses. The reality is that funding cuts and underutilization has caused these services to be revamped or elimitated at many community colleges.If you are a newcomer, what prompted you to run for the community college board? If you're an incumbent, list your accomplishments or key initiatives in which you played a leadership role.I had a hand in recommending items for the local Governement travel policy. I have also had input on the programs and services that will continue in light of fiscal issues facing all education institutions.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Education is an investment in the future. We must find a formula to fund education in a sustainaable manner. It is key for our education systems at all levels to find compromise and move forward together.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Pope FrancisWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?There is no substitute for hard work.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Taking time to make more memories with my children.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Science.
