Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am running for the D120 school board because I am passionate about our community and our children. My focus for MHS is to keep our school fiscally sound while providing the absolute best education and school experience possible for our Mundelein children. What do you think about the process for measuring student success in your district? Is it adequate? What changes, if any, do you propose? The process for measuring success of the students of D120 is a source of pride for all of those involved. The MHS BOE has given our administrators wide latitude to explore what best fits and benefits the students of MHS. I am proud of the measures being taken to make certain that whatever process is ultimately decided upon is best for all.How big a role do you think the board of education should play in setting the curriculum for students and what ideas do you have for changes to the current curriculum?Although the BOE has the final vote to implement the curriculum for students, I don't believe it is the BOE's place to set the curriculum, but instead, review and potentially approve the final curriculum choices brought to the board after extensive research and study by administrators and department heads. I am excited to see more and more STEM and STEAM components being included in many of our school's course offerings, and I look forward to seeing to seeing how STEM and STEAM will affect our curriculum. What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax or fee increases? At this time, the District 120 budget is balanced. Our CFO, Andy Searle, is quite diligent in making sure we make the best financial choices to benefit the school. There are no cuts necessary and there is no plan to raise taxes. MHS has done an exemplary job of using funds supplied by the State of IL along with funds from bonds, to build an incredible new STEM building for our students. What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system? If a voucher system is approved, we can only continue our goal of making MHS a top notch school with excellent, well-educated teachers and state-of-the-art school facilities. The appropriate response of a public school BOE would be to welcome the children and families who choose to use their vouchers to attend our facility. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? My goal for MHS is to have a school that offers career-oriented classes in state-of-the-art learning facilities, while offering a safe environment conducive to a positive learning atmosphere. I believe it is vital to the continued success of MHS that the ethnicities and cultural differences of all MHS students are embraced and welcomed. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Joe MaddonWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Be kind and fair.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Finish college. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Psychology.
