Coaching switch for Harper women's basketball team

After four seasons with the Harper College's women's basketball program, Jenny Turpel has resigned.

In a meeting with athletic director Doug Spiwak last week, Turpel said she was pursuing other opportunities.

Under Turpel's guidance as head coach the last three seasons, the program went 20-74.

"We haven't seen the results," Spiwak said.

The women's basketball season at Harper was cancelled midway through conference play this winter due to a lack of available players. The Hawks were 0-5 against North Central Community College Conference foes at that point.

Sean Stochl, who already is leading the Harper men's team, will also coach the women's program next season.

Spiwak believes the move will help get the women's program on track, citing Stochl's recruiting skills and rapport with athletes.

And having one coach in charge of both basketball teams isn't new to the conference. At Milwaukee Area Technical College, coach Randy Casey recently completed his first season in charge of both Stormers teams. Only the men had a losing record (14-16).
