The Elgin Lions Club and the Dundee Township Lions Club are sponsoring the Lions Raceway Woods 5K Run and Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Raceway Woods Forest Preserve, off Route 31 in Carpentersville. They are now accepting sponsorships and donations, and signing up runners.

Entry fees for the 5K are $30 by April 20 or $35 on race day. Cost for the walk is $20. Runners and walkers receive a T-shirt with the Lions Raceway Woods 5K logo.

For details on registration or sponsorship, visit www.LionsRaceway5K.com.

Online registration closes April 20. Race-day registration will be 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the registration area near the start/finish line. Packets for preregistered runners will be available for pickup from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Bandito Barney's Beach Club, 10 N. River St. in East Dundee.

All proceeds benefit the Elgin Lions Club and the Dundee Township Lions Club. Runners are asked to donate at least one pair of used eyeglasses and/or one nonperishable food item at the race.

The race will begin near the "Monza Wall" and follow the long straightaway north that race cars traveled when the location was a raceway in the 1950s-'60s. Most of the course is blacktop with some graveled areas near the end of the race. Two water stops will be located along the race. Bananas, bagels and water will be available near the finish line.

Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, including a copy of the book "The Midwest Motorsport Legend: Meadowdale Raceways" by Philip Aleo.

All awards will be presented at the post-race celebration at Bandito Barney's Beach Club. A free beverage will be included for runners that attend the party.
