Wheeling police station now an 'Internet Purchase Exchange Location'

The Wheeling Police Department is now a safe "internet Purchase Exchange Location" for residents buying and selling items through online sites such as Craigslist, Facebook and OfferUp.

The lobby of the police station, 1 Community Blvd., Wheeling, is monitored 24/7 with video surveillance and the facility is manned 24/7 as well, police said.

"People just never know who they are dealing with when conducting these types of transactions online or through texting," Wheeling police Cmdr. Joseph Licari said in a news release. "We wanted to give people a safe alternative to make these sales and designated the lobby of the Wheeling Police Department an 'internet Purchase Exchange Location.'"

Anyone interested in using the lobby need not make an appointment, they can simply show up and conduct their sales transaction. Call the Wheeling Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (847) 459-2994 for more information.
