Mundelein students take glimpse into their futures

Eighth-grade students at Carl Sandburg Middle School got an early chance to start thinking about their long-term futures Thursday when the Mundelein school held a mini college and career fair.

Representatives from College of Lake County, North Park University, Trinity University, as well as members of skilled trade groups, the U.S. Coast Guard and health services gave presentations to students over eight sessions throughout the day.

"Our hope is that each eighth grader gains an understanding that going to college is an attainable goal, regardless of their circumstances," Principal Mark Pilut said.

"We want them to start high school and be ready," teacher and event organizer Gretchen Garza added. "We want them to hit the ground with their feet ready to go, not slack."
