Teddy is only 9 months old, but he usually doesn't act his age. The young golden retriever - and newest employee at Maine West High School in Des Plaines - is peaceful, calm and reserved. He keeps to himself and naps in school counselor Lizz Hoover's office until a student needs his help. Teddy started working full time about two weeks ago. Full story.

Police searching for inmate mistakenly released from prison

An inmate facing murder charges was mistakenly released from prison, Cook County sheriff's officials said yesterday. Police are looking for Garrett Glover, 29, who was sentenced Feb. 23 to four years in prison for a 2014 attempted armed robbery case, the sheriff's office said. Full story.

Elgin police not changing stance on immigration

With nationwide uncertainty regarding federal immigration policies, Elgin police said they will continue not to independently enforce immigration laws with the exception of known gang members, sex offenders and felons. The city's human relations commission has been tasked with researching what it would mean for Elgin to become a "sanctuary city," Mayor David Kaptain said. Hoffman Estates man gets 22 years for sixth DUI

A Hoffman Estates man convicted of his sixth DUI was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Jose Cruz, 53, was arrested in April 2016 after Elk Grove Village police observed him making an improper left turn at Elmhurst and Higgins roads. Cruz was convicted during a jury trial last month. Full story.

Driver who killed Hainesville woman sent to prison

A Zion man who said in court he is "truly sorry" for causing a crash last year that killed a 54-year-old Hainesville woman was sentenced yesterday to six years in prison for drunken driving. Shawn Flores, 26, of the 4200 block of Bluebird Avenue, also vowed to "never make the same mistake again." Full story.
