College of Lake County student wins two gold medals at debate tournament

A College of Lake County forensics and debate team member received two gold medals at a recent regional speech and debate tournament hosted by Harper College in Palatine.

Ryan Haass, a sophomore from Vernon Hills, won the gold in public debate and impromptu speaking and a silver medal in extemporaneous speaking at competition, which featured teams from both community colleges and four-year schools.

"It felt good to win the gold medals, especially in the debate competition, because all of my opponents were students at four-year colleges," Haass said in a news release.

The CLC team will travel to the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association tournament this weekend at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
