March brings special events to Schaumburg Library

If you are a woman, a reader, a fan of Dr. Seuss or someone who leaps for joy at the words "Comic Con," then March is the month for you at the Schaumburg Library.

Special events from beginning to end will take place for people of all ages and interests. From baby chicks in the lobby to the Festival of Colors to a parade of superheroes, there will be activities and opportunities galore.

The library will kick off March with a Dr. Seuss' Birthday event from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in the kidsZone Program Room at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. Families are invited to celebrate the author's birthday with science experiments and art projects related to his books.

A Prom Clothes Collection will take place the first three Saturdays in March. If you have prom dresses, suits, tuxes or ties that you don't need, donate them to the library's Prom Formal Wear Giveaway, taking place Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and 2. Someone will greatly appreciate your act of kindness. Please donate only clothing that is in excellent condition. No shoes, garters, jewelry or items with tears or stains will be accepted.

Visit our peeps! Starting Tuesday, March 7, the library will have chicken eggs incubating in the lobby. The chicks are expected to hatch sometime around Tuesday, March 28, and will stay at the library for approximately one week before going to live at the Spring Valley Nature Center.

Celebrate Women's History Month with special programs about three significant women. Learn about Amy McCormick from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, March 13; Marie Antoinette from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21; and Babe Didrikson Zaharias from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday, March 30. Each of these women will be portrayed by dramatists who will entertain as well as inform during their engaging performances.

All ages are invited to join the library's celebration of Holi, India's spring Festival of Colors. Come for crafts, Rangoli art and other activities.

March's special events will culminate with Comic Con, scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25. In this celebration of all things pop culture, everyone will be welcome to meet and pose with costumed characters and meet comic artists and writers.

There will also be face painting, movieoke and a parade. Costumes are encouraged.

These are just a sampling of the many opportunities coming your way in March. For a full listing of programs, classes, bus trips, book discussion groups and more, see the library's February-March Guide or visit www.SchaumburgLibrary.org.
