March 15: Ninth Annual 'Empty Bowls' fundraiser at CLC to fight hunger

College of Lake County students studying ceramic art and food preparation are teaming up again to fight hunger in the Ninth Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15.

For a minimum donation of $15 per bowl, plate or cup, attendees can select a piece of handmade pottery and receive a serving of chili and cornbread. Students and faculty from the ceramics department have created more than 1,000 pieces for the event. CLC's Hospitality and Culinary Management program is preparing and serving the food.

The event will take place in the Student Activities Multipurpose Room C016, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Visitor parking is available in parking lots 4 and 5. Proceeds will benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank (www.northernilfoodbank.org).

Coming in April, a huge variety of hand-crafted pottery will be on sale at the semi-annual Ceramics department and Community Clay Association Ceramics Sale April 4 and 5 in the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art at the Grayslake Campus. Hours for the sale are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Sales help support the visiting artist program, field trips, scholarships and new equipment for the studio. The next workshop will be held March 11 featuring award-winning artist Susan Dewsnap. The workshop is free to CLC students and $100 for non-students. Contact David Bolton for more information.
