No one hurt in Fox Lake house fire

A fire started by grease in a Fox Lake kitchen Saturday displaced a family after their home was heavily damaged, fire officials said.

Nobody was injured in the fire that started just after 4 p.m. in a one-story, single-family home on the 34000 block of North Holman Avenue, Fox Lake Battalion Chief Larry Van Hoorelbeke said.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke, and it took them 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control, Van Hoorelbeke said. Three family members were home when the fire started and evacuated safely.

"There was a lot of fire damage to the kitchen area," Van Hoorelbeke said. "The rest of the structure had heavy heat and smoke damage."

The home, which sustained an estimated $100,000 in damage, is uninhabitable, he said.

No firefighters were injured. Wauconda and Round Lake assisted.
