Seat open on Gail Borden library board

The Gail Borden Public Library District is putting out a call to residents interested in being appointed to fill a newly vacant seat on the board.

Donna Kline, who was elected in April 2015, said she resigned from her seat to move to Indiana, where her son and his family live. Her term expires in April 2019.

"It happened very quickly," she said. "We were visiting our son in Fort Wayne and all of a sudden we started thinking, 'Why are we living so far from our grandchildren since we don't have to?'"

Kline, who worked for 25 years in the library field, said she is volunteering at her grandson's school library and hasn't decided whether to pursue a seat on her local library board.

Kline made a lasting contribution to Gail Borden by asking for regular staff presentations to the board, which is helpful to trustees and staff members, library spokeswoman Denise Raleigh said. "She was a great board member for us," Raleigh said. "We will miss her."

Board President Jean Bednar agreed, saying Kline's library background was invaluable. Future candidates don't need to have such in-depth knowledge but should love the library nonetheless, she said.

"We need on the board someone who recognizes what a great place the library is and doesn't have an agenda," she said.

Those interested in being appointed to the vacant seat should submit a resume and letter of interest by March 31 to Gail Borden Public Library District, attn: Joyce Schifferer, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, IL 60120 or email jschifferer@gailborden.info.

Library board meetings take place at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month.
