Elgin man charged with stabbing roommate over Facebook messages

An argument between roommates over Facebook posts led to a stabbing at an Elgin residence early Wednesday, authorities said.

Luis Martinez-Meza, 40, was charged with aggravated domestic battery after, prosecutors say, he stabbed his male roommate over Facebook messages between the victim and Martinez-Meza's wife, who lives in Mexico, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Caitlin Casey.

The argument began about 1 a.m. Wednesday, Casey said. During a lull, the 34-year-old roommate left the residence. Martinez-Meza retrieved a kitchen knife and followed the man outside, where he stabbed him in his wrist and knee, Casey said.

The man was treated at a hospital and released, Casey said.

Martinez-Meza, who has no criminal background, was ordered held on $75,000 bail.

He next appears in court on March 16.
