Report: Off-duty Woodstock cop charged with DUI in Round Lake crash

An off-duty Woodstock police officer was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving too fast for conditions after a Feb. 11 crash into a utility pole in Round Lake, the Northwest Herald is reporting.

Michael E. Niedzwiecki, 29, of Lake Villa, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, according to a police report obtained by the Northwest Herald.

Niedzwiecki, who was hired by the department in 2012, also showed officers his police badge and refused field sobriety and breath tests, according to reports.

He told officers he forgot about a curve and hit the pole near North Hainesville and East Clarendon roads, the Northwest Herald reports.
