Fenton season ends just short of state

Fenton wrestling coach Brian Hastings was impressed.

"Crystal Lake Central led by Justen (Lehr) has an outstanding program," Hastings said. "They have a lot of experience and talent. They have tough, hard-nosed kids."

Crystal Lake Central defeated the Bison 45-21 at the Class 2A Crystal Lake Central sectional action Tuesday night.

Fenton finished the dual meet season with an impressive 26-1 mark.

"A great season for our kids," Hastings said. "We had a great group of seniors who will be missed. We have a good group coming back. The kids wrestled hard tonight. Crystal Lake Central, who wrestles better competition, was just better."

Crystal Lake Central (19-5) advanced to the state quarterfinals at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington to take on Washington at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Washington cruised past Ottawa 71-7.

"We are excited to advance to the state meet," said Crystal Lake Central coach Justen Lehr. "We had a lot of kids step up tonight with great performances. Washington has a great program. We will be overmatched Saturday, but I know the kids will show up and wrestle hard."

Winning five matches, the Bison registered three pins on the night.

Senior 152-pounder Angel Nava (39-6) registered the quickest pin for the Bison, earning a fall against Crystal Lake Central's Brenden Parks in 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Isaiah Brock (285 pounds) and Mike Bailon (106) also collected pins for Fenton.

Brock (13-4), a senior, ended his senior season pinning Wyatt Blake of Crystal Lake Central in 3:25. Bailon pinned Edwin Hernandez in 5:20.

Other winners for the Bison were Jeremy Piskorz (120 pounds) and Ivan Rodriguez (220).

Piskorz decisioned Crystal Lake Central's Mike Locascio 7-2, and Rodriguez blanked Aidan Seban 6-0.

The sectional champion Tigers picked up nine wins with four pins.

Two-time Class 2A individual champion 138-pounder Lenny Petersen (39-4) quickly disposed of Fenton's Miguel Gonzalez in 55 seconds.

Other pins Tigers wins came from Brock Montford (113), Connor Burns (126) and Frank Carone (160).

Other Tigers winners included Austin Ernd (132, 31-13), Eddie Diaz (145), Braden Bisram (170), Liam O'Donnell (182) and Seamus O'Donnell (195).

"Whoever we have put in the lineup this season have come through for us," Lehr said. "We expect kids like Lenny Peterson, Austin Ernd, Liam O'Donnell and Seamus O'Donnell to wrestle well. But kids like Eddie Diaz and Braden Bisram really came through and came up with huge wins."
