Lake County deputies save OD victim near Graysklake

Lake County sheriff's deputies used a combination of CPR and the anti-opiate drug naloxone to save a 23-year-old man suffering from an apparent overdose Saturday, authorities said.

Deputies were called about 6:20 p.m. Saturday to a home on the 33600 block of North Evergreen Drive near Grayslake to assist paramedics with a possible overdose. When deputies arrived, they found the victim unconscious and not breathing.

Deputy Ashley Pomazal administered two doses of naloxone and Deputy Michael Bassi performed CPR, before a third dose of naloxone was administered, according to the sheriff's office. The man then started breathing on his own and regained consciousness, sheriff's police said.

The man was transported to a hospital, where he's expected to recover.

This is the fifth life saved this year from an opioid overdose by Lake County deputies, officials say.
