Schaumburg Library to celebrate Women's History Month with special programs

Schaumburg Library will join the nation in celebrating Women's History Month in March by offering entertaining and educational programs on three significant women. Registration is required for these free programs. To register, call (847) 923-3347 or visit the Information Desk on the second floor. Registration is also available online at www.SchaumburgLibrary.org.

The first Women's History Month program is "Please call me Amy," scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, March 13, in the Rasmussen Room of the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. Ellie Carlson will portray Amy McCormick, the first wife of Colonel Robert R. McCormick of Tribune fame. In this living history portrayal, audience members will get to know Amy, who was a founding member of Orphans of the Storm, an accomplished horsewoman and acclaimed painter.

Those who would like to learn more about the ill-fated Queen of France are invited to attend "Meet Marie Antoinette" from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, in the Rasmussen Room. Dramatist Martha Mathisen will bring Marie to life in her costumed, first-person narrative about this misunderstood queen.

The women's history programs conclude with "Babe Didrikson Zaharias," slated from 1:30-3 p.m., Thursday, March 30, in the Rasmussen Room. Leslie Goddard will portray this famous All-American basketball player, Olympic medalist in track and field, and championship golfer.
