Streamwood teen dies after being hit by SUV

A teenager struck and killed by an SUV Sunday night was a well-liked seventh-grader at Tefft Middle School in Streamwood, Elgin Area School District U-46 officials said Monday night.

Ronald Guidry, 13, was crossing East Irving Park Road near McKool Avenue about 7:40 p.m. Sunday when an eastbound Chevy Suburban hit him, authorities said. The boy was walking with a family friend, who was not injured, Streamwood Deputy Police Chief Daryl Syre said.

Ronald was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was pronounced dead at 8:31 p.m., police said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," said Mary Fergus, director of school and community relations for U-46.

She said Ronald was "well-liked" and that counselors and grief loss experts will be at the school for as long as they are needed to help students and teachers with their feelings.

An autopsy conducted Monday by the Cook County medical examiner's office determined Ronald died of "cervical injuries" consistent with being struck by a car.

The 58-year-old man driving the Suburban that struck the Ronald was uninjured. Police have not issued any citations.

Friends have established a GoFundMe account with a goal of raising $3,000 to help with funeral expenses.
