Even without winter, Hawthorn Woods enjoys winter carnival

Despite springlike temperatures on Saturday, the village of Hawthorn Woods still held its annual Winter Carnival.

The event in Community Park included horse-drawn wagon rides, train rides, inflatable obstacle course, touch-a-truck, hockey and a variety of family-friendly games for all ages. A Queen Elsa character from the Disney movie "Frozen" visited with children as well.

Event contributors included the Hawthorn Woods Police Department, Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church, St. Matthew Church and School, Mother's Against Drunk Driving, South Lake County Regional CERT, Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County and volunteers from Stevenson and Conant high schools.
