MCC invites you to 'The Easiest Conversation on Race' Feb. 22

McHenry County College continues Black History Month with "The Easiest Conversation on Race," a racial awareness workshop for MCC students and employees, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the Luecht Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

It will be presented by Dar Mayweather of DoingtheGoodWork.com. Sometimes people unintentionally perpetuate the idea that racism does not exist or think that we live in a "post-racial" society. Participants will use definitions of race related words to set the stage for the workshop and share techniques to become racially aware.

On Wednesday, March 1, a reenactor presentation of Harriet Tubman will transition MCC from Black History Month to Women's History Month. This emotion-packed portrayal of the phenomenal and renowned leader of the Underground Railroad talks about the life of a slave. The focus is on some of the hardships that Tubman endured and overcame.

It concludes with a song-filled, first-person characterization of Harriet Tubman as a free woman. The presentation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Luecht Conference Center. It is free and open to the public.
