Two Crystal Lake men killed in weekend crash

Two Crystal Lake men - 68 and 28 years old - were killed in a crash Saturday evening in unincorporated Nunda Township, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies and Crystal Lake police officers and firefighters responded to the crash, which occurred at 7:35 p.m. Saturday on the 4400 block of Walkup Road north of Hillside Road.

The 68-year-old man has been identified as Lawrence T. Madigan, of Crystal Lake,

A 2016 Toyota Tacoma driven by the younger man and a 2010 Buick Lacrosse driven by Madigan collided in the southbound lane along Walkup Road. Madigan was declared dead at the scene at 8:20 p.m., and the driver of the Tacoma was taken to Centegra Hospital McHenry by Crystal Lake firefighters and then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He succumbed to his injuries Sunday.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, and the 28-year-old already was under investigation for DUI, authorities said.

The younger man's identity is being withheld pending an investigation by the McHenry and Lake County coroner's offices.
