Rotary Dawnbreakers hosts western-themed auction, dinner

Rotary members live the motto, "Service Above Self" and the Dawnbreakers Rotary Club of Crystal Lake delivers service and charitable giving with a western-themed annual auction the first Saturday in March.

The 28th annual event is on track to raise tens of thousands of dollars. The cumulative charitable giving is more than $1.5 million, to date.

This year's event features a mechanical bull, four-course dinner, silent and live auction, cash raffles, music and fun from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the Holiday Inn of Crystal Lake. Tickets are $100.

"We fill the ballroom with over 400 guests who are leaders from business and the community," said Kay Stanish, president.

"Everyone is so generous with their contributions of auction items, purchasing raffle tickets and spending plenty to help charitable causes. When our members ask for donations, businesses are very generous because they get their products before a great audience."

According to Stanish, all the proceeds are given to charity through the club's charity fund board, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.

Key charities to receive funds include: Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Crystal Lake Food Pantry, Relay For Life, Family Health Partnership Clinic, Bravehearts Therapeutic Riding Stables, TLS Veterans, Pioneer Center, as well as Rotary partnerships for clean water and global support.

The Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers, founded in 1989, meets at 6:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Holiday Inn of Crystal Lake.

Rotary International was founded in 1905 in Chicago by Paul Harris as a service and networking organization. The Rotary Foundation is one of the top charitable organizations in the world and partners with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Polio Eradication.

The End Polio Now campaign was stared in the 1980s and, to date, polio has been eradicated in all but three countries. A global success fueled by individual Rotary members and clubs at the local level. There are more than 33,000 clubs around the world and 1.3 million Rotarians.
