Woman gets 7 years in prison for ID thefts in Elgin, North Aurora

A Chicago woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to two felonies in Kane County - a July 2015 identity theft and October 2015 forgery.

Tiffany R. Marsh, 32, of the 1500 block of West Huron Street, also must pay nearly $7,000 as part of her guilty plea, which was accepted by Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler, according to prosecutors and court records.

Marsh pleaded guilty to a July 2015 incident in which she went into a Chase Bank branch in Elgin and tried to withdraw $6,500 from someone else's account, according to prosecutors. Marsh had information about the account holder, but didn't personally know the potential victim, prosecutors said. Bank employees became suspicious, called police and she was arrested as she tried to leave.

While free on bond, Marsh was arrested at a Citibank location in North Aurora on Oct. 21, 2015 for using personal information to withdraw $6,950 from an account of a person she did not know, prosecutors said.

Under state law, Marsh can have her sentence cut in half for good behavior. She gets credit for 300 days served at the Kane County jail while the cases were pending.
