Church gives A Safe Place $5,000 grant

A $5,000 grant from Lake Forest's Church of the Holy Spirit was awarded to A Safe Place to help support its domestic violence programs that helps victims rebuild their lives.

The grant is part of the church's Mission and Outreach, working with organizations that provide services and resources to its neighbors and enhance the life of the community. Recently, the Mission and Outreach group refocused its efforts around organizations that specifically reach out to children, families and those lacking food security.

The funds will be used to continue providing programs and services that are client-centered and provide a safety net to assist victims and their children from a family therapy perspective.

Services are designed to meet the immediate crisis and long term needs of domestic violence victims and their children, and to support them in their journey to healing and living a violence-free life.

Through multifaceted programs, A Safe Place provides lifesaving services to domestic violence victims and their children, assists the whole family in transforming their lives after domestic violence, prevents future abuse by addressing its root cause through abuser intervention programs, and educates the community about domestic violence and how everyone can be involved in ending it.

Last year, A Safe Place served more than 13,000 community members.

As funding from the state of Illinois decreases, the grant from the Church of the Holy Spirit is needed now more than ever. Services and staffing are decreasing, threatening the foundation of all programs, from emergency shelter and court advocacy to counseling and life skills. Last year, more than 500 individuals were turned away due to lack of funding.
