Kerpe Practice gains Rebecca Guio, APN

Local internist Algimantas S. Kerpe, M.D., and staff, rang in 2017 with expanded services and a brand new face at the solo, primary care practice on Blackberry Drive. Rebecca D. Guio, APN, brings more than 16 years experience as a nurse practitioner, as well as a hometown connection, to the collaborative role with Dr. Kerpe.

"I am so pleased to introduce Becky to our patients," Dr. Kerpe said. "Many already know her since she and her family are active, longtime members of the Geneva/Tri-Cities community. I clearly see her as contributing to our mission of providing high-quality, relationship-based primary care.

According to the American College of Physicians, nurse practitioners or "NPs" typically can conduct medical histories and physicals, diagnose and treat health problems, order laboratory tests and X-rays, prescribe medications, administer immunizations, provide patient education and prevention services, and perform case management and care coordination.

An added benefit for Dr. Kerpe's practice is having a female clinician who is skilled and trained in women's health issues. Guio, for example, is able to perform Pap smears for female patients who may be uncomfortable seeing a male doctor.

"We have been talking about working together for many years," said Guio. "Dr. Kerpe's passion for developing caring relationships with his patients are personal and professional goals that I share also."

It wasn't until the Kerpe practice moved to its current location in the Medical Professional Building near the corner of Bricher Road at Route 38 last year, that the two clinicians could join forces on a part-time basis.

Guio's training includes: BS Nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, Ill.; MS Nursing from Rush University, Chicago; Adult Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified (ANCC); Registered Nurse, Board Certified; and member, Illinois Society for Advance Practice Nursing. A career highlight for Guio is also her position on staff with the Illinois Urological Institute for the past three years where she specializes in issues relating to incontinence, kidney stones, osteoporosis, and urinary tract infections.

At this time, patients can see "Becky" with Dr. Kerpe on Thursdays and every other Friday afternoons. New patients are accepted. For additional information or to schedule an appointment, please call (630) 262-3327.
