Maine West wraps up perfect CSL North run

Maine West's girl basketball team put the finishing touches on its Central Suburban North title by racing past Highland Park 79-38 on Friday night.

The road victory gave the Warriors a 10-0 record in coach Kim deMarigny's first season in charge of the program.

She replaced the late Derril Kipp, who had guided the Warriors to 26 crowns over the past 35 years.

The West girls and staff dedicated the season to Kipp, and finished the regular season with a sterling 23-3 record, falling only to Evanston, New Trier and Rolling Meadows.

West made its presence felt early on Friday, taking a 33-9 lead after one quarter.

Sophomore Rachel Kent led the way with 17 points and 4 assists while junior Alisa Fallon scored 9 of her 11 points in the first quarter and contributed 7 assists for the game.

Other top scorers for West were Jocelyn Jacob (9 points), Allison Pearson (8), Jessica Riedl (8), Acacia Hernandez (7) and Angela Dugalic (6).

The No. 3-seeded Warriors begin their postseason by playing in their own regional semifinal on Tuesday night against the winner of Monday's play-in game between No. 15 Maine East and No. 19 Von Steuben.
