Palatine, Mundelein principals take jobs in Prospect Heights District 23

Prospect Heights School District 23 has reached an agreement to hire an assistant superintendent and middle school principal as part of a transition to replace the district's superintendent.

School board members Wednesday approved hiring Christie Samojedny as assistant superintendent and Camron Nystrom as the next principal at Douglas MacArthur Middle School.

In November, the district decided to promote Assistant Superintendent Don Angelaccio to replace outgoing Superintendent Deb Wilson, who retires June 30. Samojedny, the principal at Jane Addams Elementary School in Palatine Township District 15, will start July 1. Her salary will be $126,500.

Samojedny worked as a teacher and principal during 18 years in the Palatine school district, according to a news release.

Nystrom will replace Douglas MacArthur Middle School Principal Steven Lee, who plans to retire after this school year. Nystrom's been an assistant principal at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Mundelein Elementary School District 75 since 2011. His salary will be $117,500 starting Aug. 2.

"As we continue to move toward our vision of 'Achieving Excellence in Learning Through an Equitable Education for All,' we are confident that Christie and Camron will play a valuable role in helping to achieve our goals and we welcome them to the District 23 family," Wilson said in the news release.
