Advocate Good Samaritan hosts heart fair, open house

DOWNERS GROVE - Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital will host a free community heart fair and tours of the new private patient bed tower from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 18.

The West Tower Open House will provide the opportunity to get a sneak peak of the hospital's three-story addition that houses 96 private patient rooms. The new patient rooms are nearly double the size of traditional rooms and include pull-out sleeper sofas for the comfort of family members who may want to stay with patients.

The West Tower will officially open March 1.

"We take great pride in the level of care that we provide our patients. The new West Tower was designed to meet the needs of our clinicians, patients and family members. State-of-the-art technology will improve patient safety and make patient care more efficient for our physicians and nurses," said Dave Fox, president of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.

In addition to the West Tower tour, the hospital will host a heart fair that will offer the following screenings, tests and education sessions:

• Diabetes and cholesterol screenings (registration is required for the two-step testing process with individual test results reviewed by a registered nurse. To register, call 1-800-3-ADVOCATE)

• Cholesterol consultations

• Blood pressure checks

• Asthma screening

• Nutrition and diabetes education

• Spine care

• Lung, breast and colon cancer information

• Women's and children's services.

In addition, question and answer forums with Good Samaritan Hospital cardiologists will be held at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Throughout the day, tours of the Feldman Pavilion and Cardiac catheterization laboratories will be held along with hands-on demonstrations of how to use an automatic external defibrillator.
