Citizenship Classes Coming to Library

Anyone preparing to become a U.S. citizen is welcome to attend the 12-week Citizenship Class from February through May at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Classes will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Mondays and Fridays, Feb. 20-May 15 in the library's Central Adult Classroom. Attendance is free and registration takes place during the first class.

Citizenship classes offer instruction in the English language to prepare students for their naturalization interviews. Topics covered include naturalization eligibility requirements, the naturalization process, rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship, U.S. history and civics, reading, writing and speaking English. Students will learn how to answer citizenship questions from the N-400 application and discuss obstacles and challenges to becoming a U.S. citizen. Participants should bring their green cards to the class.

The Schaumburg Township District Library will provide the study materials necessary for students to reach their goal of becoming U.S. citizens. Teachers are provided by High School District 214 Community Education.
